Sailing Classes

We are an accredied ASA Affilliate and keep our classes to four people or less.

ASA 101, Basic Keelboat Sailing


Learn to skipper a 20' - 27' sloop-rigged keelboat by day, in light to moderate winds and sea conditions. Learn basic sailing terminology, parts and functions, helm commands, basic sail trim, points of sail, buoyage, seamanship and safety including basic navigation rules to avoid collisions and hazards.

 

This is a two day class and is taught on our Catalina 320 

 

 

ASA 103, Basic Coastal Cruising

 
Learn to skipper a sloop-rigged auxiliary powered 25'-35' keelboat by day in moderate winds and sea conditions. Learn cruising sailboat terminology, basic boat systems, auxiliary engine operation, docking procedures, intermediate sail trim, navigation rules, basic coastal navigation, anchoring, weather, safety and seamanship.
 
This is a two day class and is taught on our Catalina 320 or Catalina 350

 

 

ASA 101-103, Combined Class

 
The combined class is taught without taking a break between  ASA 101 and 103. The days are longer and skills are reinforced by drills that are designed to challenge what you learn in 101 and 103. 
 
This is a three to four day class and is taught on our Catalina 320 and Catalina 350

 

 

ASA 104, Bareboat Cruising

 

 
Learn how to sail a sloop-rigged, auxiliary powered 30'-45' sailboat during a multi-day cruise upon inland/coastal waters in moderate/heavy winds and sea conditions. Learn about provisioning, boat systems, auxiliary engines, advanced sail trim, coastal navigation, anchoring / mooring, docking, emergency operations, weather, and more.
 
You will be aboard either our Catalina 350 or Catalina 400 and is a three day class.

ASA 105, Coastal Navigation

 

Learn the the navigational theory and practices for safe navigation of a sailing vessel in coastal and inland waters. On-water coastal navigation skills elements are contained in the ASA103, Basic Coastal CruisingASA 104, Bareboat Cruising, and ASA 106, Advanced Coastal Cruising, in progressively increasing levels of detail.
 
We offer ASA 105 as a self-study or on-board class. If you choose the self-study option the fees are greatly reduced and you come for a day of sailing and testing. The on-board option will add more on the water experiance and getting to know what Marina life is like as we work on charting on our floating classroom.

ASA 106, Advanced Coastal Cruising

 
 
Learn to safely act as skipper and crew of a sailing vessel about 30 to 50 feet in length in coastal and inland waters, in any conditions.
 
We teach this as a minimum of a three day class on our Catalina 400. In the past we have sailed overnight to a port east of Port Clinton, resting for a period, doing a little siteseeing and then sailing back. As long as the participants have a valid Passport, we are contiplating sailing to Canada and back. 
 
 
 

 

 

 

Learn to skipper an auxiliary-powered sailing cruising catamaran of approximately 30-45' feet in length during a multi-day liveaboard cruise upon inland or coastal waters in moderate to heavy winds (up to 30 knots) and sea conditions.

ASA 118, Docking Endorsement

 
 
Learn basic docking skills for boats with single inboard or outboard engines. Discover the basic theory and hands-on techniques needed to dock and undock boats in an efficient manner and without damage or injury.
